What Is E-Verify? 

E-Verify is a free, web-based system operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA). It allows employers to electronically confirm that a newly hired employee is legally authorized to work in the United States. 

While not required for all employers, E-Verify is mandatory for certain federal contractors and in several states.
